Kidde Launches New AEGIS Fire Panel

ASHLAND, MA, June 18, 2007 - Kidde Fire Systems recently launched a new, single hazard fire extinguishing and agent releasing control panel, called the Kidde AEGIS.  An ideal choice for protecting valuable commercial and industrial assets including; server rooms, process control rooms, data processing areas, cabinets, turbines, machines and warehouses, the new AEGIS panel offers customers increased functionality and value.  Kidde is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

“The AEGIS combines the capabilities of the Kidde Gemini, Kidde Gemini II and Kidde Scorpio, giving our customers the opportunity to buy a more capable product at a competitive price point,” said Kate Houghton, Director of Marketing, Kidde Fire Systems.

The panel can be used to control Kidde’s full line of suppression systems, including FM-200, FE-13, Carbon Dioxide, 3M Novec 1230 Fire Protection Fluid, and Argonite.  The panel is also compatible with pre-action sprinkler and deluge systems as well as foam and foam/water systems.  Pre-action sprinklers use valves to hold back the water supply, unlike traditional sprinkler systems where the pipes are always filled with water, to reduce damage to sensitive equipment should a sprinkler head break.

Prior to its launch, the panel underwent rigorous testing and certification.  According to Kidde Product Manager Abhay Nadgir, “The AEGIS was developed to meet evolving industry functionality and testing standards and has been proven compliant with Factory Mutual rules, NFPA 72, ANSI/UL 864, 9th edition, and CAN/ULC-S527-99.”

Developed by an integrated, cross functional team that included sales, marketing, engineering, operations planning, purchasing and quality assurance, the AEGIS is designed to comply with worldwide application requirements.  The panel incorporates both customer feedback and Kidde’s decades of fire suppression expertise.

With over 160 units sold since its launch in April, the AEGIS is already protecting hazards in many US states and also in Canada, Chile, the Middle East and South East Asia.
